Description:

This is a very fine example of a mid WWII M1 Garand that was manufactured by the Springfield Armory, circa 1943. This was the standard WWII rifle that was used all the way up and into Vietnam. These mid-WWII production rifles in original condition are very difficult to find as most saw heavy use and were rebuild/overhauled several times over their life. It has the standard four line receiver markings over serial number "1603494". It has all the correct WWII parts such as the unmodified SA-6 operating rod, D28287 12 SA marked bolt assembly, the D28290-12-SA trigger housing with the unmarked milled trigger guard, C46008-3 SA hammer, C45015-9SA safety. It has the original mid-war locking bar rear sights with the Battle Range markings on the left side with the closed arrow direction indicators. It is has the correct internal, mid-war SA type parts. The barrel is marked "2-S-A-5-43" with the breech still in the white. It is also fitted with the correct narrow base SA manufactured gas cylinder with the uncapped front sight screw, round top gas cylinder lock and single slot gas plug. It is fitted with a correct WWII walnut stock and handguard set that has a stamped boxed "SA/E.McF" and Crossed Cannon cartouche on the left side with a single "P" proof in the pistol grip area.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% plus of the original wartime green parkerized finish overall on all the parts with minor edge and high spot wear with actually finish loss on the right side receiver rail and op rod slot from cycling the action. The stock and handguard are all in very fine condition with a nice matching color with only very minor handling marks/light scratches in some areas. The original cartouches and proofs are clear and distinct. The only detriment is that on each side of the rear edge area of the trigger housing a small section of wood has been chipped out due to improperly removing and inserting the trigger group. Also the very rear toe area of the buttstock is slightly undersized compared to the edge of the buttplate but it has not been sanded which may indicate an oversized or replaced buttplate. Still a very nice looking all original mid-WWII Springfield Armory M1 Garand.
