Description:

Hacker Martin was born in 1895 and learned to build guns the traditional Appalachian way from his grandfather. He is one of the 20th century craftsmen credited with keeping the tradition of hand built traditional American rifles alive into the 20th century and was an inspiration for many of the artisans working today. Many of Martin's rifles are crafted entirely from hand made parts. This rifle has traditional blade and notch sights, "H. Martin MADE FOR C.A. Trask" inscribed on a silver inscription panel inlaid behind the rear sight, scroll and floral engraving accents on the barrel, "T/KETLAND/& Co" marked lock, double set triggers, pierced and engraved patch box with a running fox on the door and an eagle on the finial, engraved silver inlays along the stock in various shapes including an eagle on the cheekpiece and fish, and attractive incised and raised relief carving primarily on the butt. An attractive contemporary powder horn signed "ITCHED BY D. BEHRMAN" with a map of the Hudson River Valley is included with the rifle.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall with an attractive antiqued finish, aged patina on the silver, some minor scratches and marks, and attractive flame figure. Mechanically fine. The horn is fine with minor storage wear.
