Working with a combination of new made and extensively modified original Luger components, John Martz produced a variety of custom Luger variants. Marked "JVM" and "4" under the side plate, appears to be a very early example of Martz's work, with some of the internal welded and built-up areas looking rougher than on later examples. A thick "45 ACP" marked barrel, blank chamber, "JVM" toggle link, and broadened receiver with "crown/M" on the left and "GERMANY" on the right. A Martz Safe Toggle Release system is installed. The "MSTR" mark on the left frame rail, and the frame under the side plate is also stamped "G/C/M" (likely indicating Gale C. Morgan, a known Martz collaborator) in small letters. Two magazines are included, both with a hardwood bases marked "4/45 ACP/JVM"; one of them is bright steel construction with what appears to be a modified Colt 1911 follower, the other is blued steel with a number of visible welds and a custom alloy follower.

Very fine as custom upgraded, with 98% plus rust blue, showing some light edge wear and handling marks. The grips are also very fine, showing a few light spots and dings. Mechanically excellent.
