Description:

This is a very fine example of a DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine. This example is complete with a DWM factory checkered walnut shoulder stock. These carbines were an early attempt to a produce a lightweight rifle substitute. They all have an 11 3/4 inch barrel and the factory hanger on the front end of the frame that attaches to a small walnut forend which houses a small spring accelerator inside. This accelerator helps cycle the barrel during firing due to the additional weight of the longer barrel. All these 1902 carbines have the rare/desirable early features such as the long old style frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small spring extractor. The top of the chamber is blank, and the front toggle has the "DWM" logo for Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken. The full serial number (22403) is correctly marked on the underside of the frame extension and the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number (03) are stamped on the various small parts. The forend is also correctly matching numbered (403) inside the cutout for the frame extension. The grips are unnumbered; however, each carries a small asterisk proof. This comes with an original checkered walnut shoulder stock that is fitted with an unnumbered refinished/restrawed replacement stock iron. The stock is fitted with a hard plastic/horn type buttplate and an original lower sling swivel. It is complete with one nickel plated magazine body with an unnumbered and unproofed walnut base.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% plus of the blue finish overall with only edge and high spot wear with several spots of light corrosion starting on the center section of the barrel. The grips are in fine condition with nice original distinct checkering on both sides, showing minor handling marks/light pressure dents on the sides. The buttstock and forend are both in very fine condition with replacement attaching iron (see above) showing only minor handling marks on the sides with nice distinct checkering. A solid representative example of a DWM Model 1902 Luger Carbine.
