This is an excellent example of an early production WWII Japanese Type 97 sniper rifle complete with the 2.5X sniper scope and scope case. This rifle was produced at the Nagoya Arsenal. The left side of the receiver is correctly stamped with small intertwined symbol for the Nagoya arsenal. The top of the receiver is marked with the intact Royal Chrysanthemum over the Japanese Kana markings for "Type 97". The rear sight is the later style without the anti-aircraft wings and the rear barrel band is equipped with the monopod block, but no monopod is attached. It has the all blued trigger guard, floorplate and front barrel band. It is fitted with a two-piece type hardwood without drain holes, short hand guard and cupped sheet metal buttplate. As noted, it comes with the smaller 2.5 power sniper scope that is marked on top with the inverted triangle inside a circle over serial No. 24101 and serial number "138" stamped on the lower left side of the scope mount. It includes a hard canvas scope case and shoulder strap.

Excellent with 95% of the original blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear with thinning on the trigger guard. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition with a matching varnish overall showing minor handling marks and light pressure dents on the sides. The scope and mount retain 90% of their blackish type finish with clear markings. The optics are viewable but a little hazy around the reticle. The scope case is in very good condition with 80% of its outer colored finish.
