Found in the 1 to 63 serial number range, this is one of 63 pre-production/experimental Camp Perry single shot target pistols that Colt built and gave to Olympic target shooters and nationally known competition shooters. Colt had leading shooters test the pistol and counsel the Colt designers on the pistol's performance prior to the gun's official introduction to the commercial market in 1926. The Camp Perry is one of the few single shot pistols offered by Colt, and although considered an accurate target pistol, limited quantities were produced. The barrel is stamped with the two-line address/1905 and 1926 patent dates marking on top and "CAL .22 LONG RIFLE" on the left side. A Rampant Colt is stamped on the left side of the frame. Note the left side of the chamber lacks the model marking as found on standard production guns. It is equipped with elevation adjustable blade and windage adjustable "U" notch rear sights. Matching serial number "46" is found on the left side of the grip frame, both grip panels and crane. The accompanying factory letter lists this pistol with a 10 inch barrel in .22 LR, blue finish and checkered walnut grips when it was shipped on December 23, 1926, to Murta, Appleton & Co. of Philadelphia.

Excellent. The pistol retains 97% original blue finish showing some extremely minor edge wear and some minor thinning on the front strap. The grips are very fine with four small filled holes on the butts and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. A rare pre-production/experimental Camp Perry Target Pistol for the serious Colt collector. A very difficult pistol to find in any condition as only 63 were produced. Writer cannot recall another example, and certainly not one this nice!
