Description:

Measuring 38 inches overall, with a 32 inch curved double fuller blade, gold washed on the lower half, with bright etched scroll and patriotic motifs, the Clauberg mark on the left ricasso, "IRON PROOF" on the vine-etched spine and "UNION FOR EVER" on the right side. The hilt is finely sculpted and gold washed with oak wreath motifs, individually sculpted three-dimensional vinework between the guard and branch, and a translucent purple stone (possibly amethyst) set into the pommel. The grip is constructed from repoussed and engraved silver, prominently featuring a native warrior among palm trees, with consignor notes attributing the warrior as a Florida Seminole. The scabbard is silver finished, with gilt furniture showing raised and sculpted decoration in much the same style as the hilt.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The excellent blade shows some light spotting, as well as 90% plus original gilt finish. A few areas of well aged brass are visible on the hilt, with a dark patina in the lower areas of the grip, contrasted with brighter high points. The scabbard shows a mixed patina, with a few handling marks and strong gilt finish on the furniture.
