Description:

5,000 of these carbines were manufactured by Savage Revolving Arms Co. for Remington c. 1865, and 3,500 were repurchased from the government by Remington in 1870 and then resold to the French for use in the Franco-Prussian War. The matching serial number is on the bottom of the barrel and front of the frame. It has a "pinched" blade front sight, notch rear sight with folding leaf, two-line Remington address and patent markings on the upper tang, Ordnance cartouches on the left side of the stock wrist, a crude period replacement barrel band, and a saddle ring and bar on the left side of the frame.

Rating Definition:

Good as period retailer nickel plated with 50% nickel remaining, gray and brown patina on the balance, mild pitting, and general marks and scratches. The forearm is fair with slivers absent and moderate wear, the buttstock has some scrapes and dings and faint cartouches. Mechanically fine.
