Description:

This is an excellent example of one of the 11,000 Spencer Carbines overhauled by Springfield Armory between 1867 and 1874. Springfield Armory refurbished the carbines, rechambered them for the .50 caliber rimfire cartridge and installed the Stabler cut off to permit the carbine to be used as a single shot. The top of the receiver has the faint three line Spencer address/patent date and the serial number is marked on top of the receiver next to the hammer. There is a small single letter inspection mark on some parts. Blue barrel and casehardened barrel band, receiver and buttplate. Brass blade front sight and folding leaf rear sight graduated to 900 yards. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with two boxed cartouches on the left wrist and sling swivel. There is a small "LTR" stamped on the comb directly ahead of the buttplate tang.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine with 90% blue and 85% casehardened finish remaining. The stock remains excellent with crisp cartouches and a few minor dings on the forearm. The barrel band is loose. Mechanically excellent.
