Description:

The U.S. Model 1795 Springfield Musket was manufactured 1813 and was likely rushed into service during the turmoil of the War of 1812. The lock plate is marked with the script "US" over the federal eagle and shield emblem above "SPRINGFIELD" (lightly arched) at the center and "1813" behind the cock. The buttplate is also dated "1813." The barrel has a bayonet stud on top near the muzzle and "US" along with "P/eagle head/V" proofs at the breech. The blade front sight is on the rear of the upper barrel band. Sling swivels are mounted through studs on the middle band and front of the trigger guard using screws from the left. The stock has "US" in script on the left flat, a circled proof and "MLS" behind the trigger guard tang, and attractive fluted comb. The consignor indicated this was previously part of the Blackburn Collection.

Rating Definition:

Fine with gray patina along most of the iron, mostly light pitting, heavier pitting on the buttplate and some varnish/oil staining. The reoiled stock is very good and is smooth with minor scratches and dings, some minor chips primarily at the toe, and crisp "US" stamp. Mechanically fine. Overall, this is a very attractive musket from our Second War of Independence.
