Description:

The Model 1795 is historically significant as the first U.S. martial musket manufactured at the U.S. armories and is based on the French Charleville Model 1765 muskets widely used by the Continental Army and American militia in the American Revolution and early national period. This musket has "1799" on the buttplate tang. 1799 was the first year these muskets were manufactured with date markings, and the locks were dated starting in 1804. A large number of the Model 1795 muskets were heavily used in early U.S. conflicts, especially the War of 1812. It has a bayonet stud on top of the barrel near the muzzle, brass blade front sight on the rear strap of the upper barrel band, sling swivels on the mid band and stud through the front of the trigger guard, "US" and "P/eagle head/V" proof and view marks on the left at the breech, the federal eagle and shield motif over "US" at the center of the lock and "SPRINGFIELD" in an arch at the tail, the noted dated on the buttplate, a faint "RW" mark on the butt behind the trigger guard, and some small single letter marks on some of the components. Includes a "US" marked socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Fair as reconverted. The iron throughout is fairly bright with mild pitting and various marks and scratches. The re-oiled stock has filled in repairs visible around the lock inlet (also internally), some hairline cracks and small chips, slivers absent at the barrel tang and forend edges, and scrapes and dings. Mechanically fine. These 1795s are rarely offered in this condition!
