Description:

This revolver was manufactured by Rogers & Spencer of Willow Dale, New York, in 1865. 5,800 were made with 5,000 shipped to the Ordnance Department. Most of the revolvers were not issued and were bought and sold as surplus by Bannerman after the Civil War. This example is one of few that have been converted for centerfire metallic cartridges. It has cone front and frame groove rear sights, a high polish blue finish with casehardened hammer and trigger, and oil finished walnut grips. The top strap is marked: "ROGERS & SPENCER/UTICA N-Y". The matching serial number is located on the underside of the barrel, cylinder, left side of the frame underside of the grip panels, and the butt. A small "shield" shaped stamp is just ahead of the trigger guard. The loading lever has been removed during the conversion process.

Rating Definition:

Fine as period converted to cartridge. The revolver retains about half of the original blue finish with a brown patina on the balance. There are some light scratches and minor marks throughout. The grips are good with some chips and scrapes on the lower edges. Mechanically fine with crisp markings.
