Description:

Manufactured by the Savage Revolving Arms Company under a sub-contract from Remington Arms Co. between 1865-1866. Remington delivered 15,000 of these carbines to the Ordnance Department which were then repurchased and sold to France for use in the Franco-Prussian War. This example shows standard markings and features along with "US" marked buttplate and inspection mark on the comb.

Rating Definition:

Very good, retains traces of the thinned original blue finish and original case colors in sheltered areas of the action with the balance a mottled grey patina. The wood is also very good with numerous minor dings, scratches, and a couple small divots consistent with use. There is a hairline crack in the forearm in front of the action. Mechanically excellent.
