Description:

Manufactured from 1854 to 1857. The barrel has a blade front sight, an folding ladder rear sight, three-line Hartford barrel address, and "J" marked at breech. There are standard patent markings on the upper tang and lock plate, a long sling bar with ring and early brass patch box, buttplate, and barrel band. This model is also known as the "John Brown Sharps" or "Beecher's Bible" because it was used by anti-slavery forces in the bloodshed leading up to Kansas statehood commonly known as "Bleeding Kansas."

Rating Definition:

Fair with an artificial brown applied over the metal surfaces and a mixed artificial dark patina on the brass with the balance a smooth grey patina. There is a protective coating applied to the metal. The re-oiled wood has some minor dings, dents, and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
