Approximately 1,500-2,000 manufactured from 1860 to the 1870s by Allen & Wheelock and Ethan Allen & Co. Though these rifles were made during the Civil War period, few were actually used during the war. However, some were privately purchased for war-time use, and this example bears all the features of those generally accepted as secondary martial carbines. Those features being short barrel, large caliber, and sling swivels along with standard markings and features.

Very good, retains traces of original blue finish with the balance mostly a smooth gray patina overall. The nicely figured wood is also very good with some minor dings, dents, and scratches and a few hairline cracks. Mechanically excellent.
