Description:

This is one of 60,000 New Model 1863 carbines manufactured for use during the Civil War and one of 27,000 Sharps carbines relined to .50 caliber and chambered for the .50-70 cartridge after the war for impending use in the Indian wars. It has the standard markings and features, including a "DFC" cartouche and three-groove rifling.

Rating Definition:

Very good, showing mostly a smooth brown patina and a very faint trace of original case color visible when the hammer is cocked. The dark wood is also very good with numerous minor dings, dents, scratches, and a few hairline cracks. Mechanically excellent.
