Description:

This carbine is numbered in the Civil War serial number range but has the three groove rifling, "ESA" stock cartouche, and Stabler patent cutoff indicative of the carbines altered at Springfield Armory for use with the same ammunition as the Model 1865 carbines. The saddle ring is absent. Many of these carbines saw hard use by the U.S. Cavalry in the Civil War and the Indian Wars.

Rating Definition:

Very good as armory refurbished, with traces of original blue and casehardened finishes in sheltered areas with the balance a smooth grey patina. The re-oiled wood is also very good with some scattered minor dings, dents, and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
