Description:

Springfield Armory converted 1,108 Spencer carbines into infantry rifles around 1871 by replacing the barrels and adding a musket style forearm secured by two barrel bands and a slotted cleaning rod. The sling swivel and bar have been removed. It has the standard markings and features and includes a socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% of the arsenal refurbished blue finish on the barrel, strong original case colors, brown patina where the finish is fading, light spotting, and generally crisp markings. The wood is fine and has minor scratches and dings, a faint cartouche, a crack in the left side of the butt, and faint hand scratched markings on the right. Mechanically fine. The bayonet is very good and has light patina and faint pitting.
