Description:

Manufactured from 1876 to the 1880s, these large frame single action revolvers were also known as the "Army Revolver." This early example (second model) features a factory engraving, open top frame, scoop cylinder flutes, wedge on the barrel, gold plating on the cylinder and nickel plating on the barrel and frame. The near full coverage factory engraving consists of floral and dot motifs and a deer panel scene on the left side plate. The left side of the frame is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER 1873", the designation for 44-40 caliber. Matching assembly numbers are found on the left side of the grip frame, rear cylinder face and barrel lug.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. The barrel and frame retain 95% original nickel finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The engraving is crisp. 50% of the original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger guard. The cylinder retains 40% plus original gold plating mostly in the scoops and stops. The grips are excellent with minimal handling evidence and attractive color. Mechanically excellent.
