Offered here is a variation (third model) of Merwin, Hulbert & Co.'s large frame revolver with conventional fluted cylinder, square butt with lanyard ring, top strap and scarce blue finish. Only about 5% of production had the blue finish. The frame is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER 1873", the designation for 44-40 caliber, on the left side. The serial number is on the butt, and matching assembly numbers are found on the left side of the grip frame, rear cylinder face, barrel lug and right grip panel.

Very fine, retaining 80% original blue finish with the balance thinning to a brown mixed with some minor high edge wear. There are numerous scattered patches of mild pitting overall. Some vibrant original case colors remain on the hammer while traces remain on the trigger guard. The grips are excellent with minimal handling evidence and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically needs work as action does not always cycle properly, slightly out of time
