Description:

These "Seven Shooters" were manufactured around 1861 to 1863. Total production is estimated at 5,000-8,000. This particular revolver has standard markings and features including the factory engraving and is inscribed to "Capt. C. Woglom" on the left of the frame along with "BROOKLYN. E.D." (Brooklyn Eastern District) marked on the right of the frame. The ejector rod is absent. This revolver most likely belonged to the very well respected Captain Cornelius Woglom (1815-1889) of Brooklyn's Fifth Precinct. At the time of his death, a local newspaper remembered Woglom as "A man of plain, simple manners and the strictest probity, he endeared himself to all, and, strange to say for a police official, he had few, if any, enemies." He had more than 30 years with the force, retiring in 1888, and during this career, Woglom purportedly was offered the position of superintendent several times but always refused it. These revolvers are rare in high original condition like this one, which has traceable history!

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall, retains 70% plus original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina and the cylinder fading to a smooth grey patina. Most of the attractively tarnished silver plating remains with some spots of mild wear showing the brass underneath. The grips are very good with numerous light to minor dings and strong varnish. Mechanically fine.
