Description:

These "Sevens Shooters" were manufactured around 1861 to 1863. Total production is estimated at 5,000-8,000 and would have been higher if Smith & Wesson had not sued Moore over his competitive design. These revolvers are known to have been privately purchased and used as side arms during the Civil War. They are rare in high original condition like this one which has a brass bead front sight, "D. MOORE PATENT. SEPT. 18. 1860" on top of the barrel, flourishes of scroll engraving on the frame and back strap, varnished walnut grip, and "49 F" assembly marks on frame, cylinder, and grips. Missing the rod under the barrel.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall, retains 90% plus bright original high polish blue with the balance a smooth brown-grey patina. The brass frame 95% plus original silver, greyed evenly with age and the hammer and trigger show 80% of the vibrant case colors. The grips are excellent overall with a few light-minor dings and scratches, and strong varnish. Mechanically excellent.
