Description:

Produced between 1863 and 1864, the Slocum was a work-around of Smith & Wesson's possession of Rollin White's patent on bored-through cylinders. The chambers are individual components that slide forward over the ejector rod for loading and unloading. Silver pin front and frame groove rear sights, with "B.A.Co PATENT APRIL 14th 1863" on top of the barrel. Frame is silver finished, with scrollwork on the sides behind the cylinder, on top behind the hammer, and borders on the sides, top and back strap. Matching "72" assembly number on the underside of the barrel, rear of the cylinder and right side of the checkered spur trigger. Grips are smooth with a rounded butt and a raised carving of a bearded Zouave on the left panel. In a fine hardwood American-style case with gray felt lining, four compartments, and a partial box of Eagle Metallic Cartridge brand 32 S&W Rimfire ammunition, with a red label, J. H. Lau & Company agent markings (active to 1916), and marbled black and white cardboard.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel shows 90% of the original blue finish, with a few spots of brown patina scattered about and minor handling marks. The cylinder and ejector show 50% original blue, mixed with brown and showing some light scratches. 50% of the original silver is visible, strongest on the left side of the frame and around the hammer, showing an attractive aged patina on both the silver and brass. Grips are excellent plus, with a few small scratches, fine detail in the carving and absolutely beautiful color. Mechanically excellent. Ammunition box is very fine as opened, with minor wear along the edges. Case is excellent, with minimal wear and some fading of the felt.
