Only around 1,500-2,000 of these revolvers with the automatically revolved cylinder were manufactured in the 1850s. The back strap has the 1855 patent date marking, the cylinder has etched floral and martial/naval motifs, and the frame and primer door have an engraved floral scrollwork and 1845 patent date (door). The trigger guard is gold plated brass. The serial number appears on the right side of the grip frame, primer door, and right side of the frame, and the top strap and cylinder pin have the number "485."

Fine with 70% original blue on the barrel, smooth gray on the cylinder, a dark period refinished blue on the frame and primer door, traces of original case colors, light pitting primarily on the frame, and 60% of the original gold plating on the trigger guard which otherwise displays aged patina. The grips are very good and have minor cracks, two circular indents on the right side, attractive iridescent colors, and light handling wear. Mechanically fine.
