Description:

This is a very fine example of 1 of only around 7,000 Model 1867 rifles manufactured. This example has the standard bayonet stud/blade front sight, folding ladder rear sight graduated to 800 yards, forearm with cap and three barrel bands, "M1867" on the top of the barrel at the breech, "SPENCER REPEATING/RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS./PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860" on the top of the action, and sling swivels on the middle band and bottom of the stock. This example does not have the cut-off device. Each side of the buttstock has a "crown/B" acceptance mark. This marking likely indicates that the rifle was intended for use in Europe. Spencer rifles, for example, were used by the French during the Franco-Prussian War. The buttplate is marked with the number "92" in large font.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine. The barrel retains 95% plus original blue finish showing a long scratch near the muzzle and some mild thinning. The remaining metal surfaces retain 90% plus vivid original case colors. The re-oiled wood is fine with some scattered minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
