The makers have kindly confirmed that this shotgun was completed on June 17th 1938 with 30 inch barrels, detachable locks and a 14 1/4 inch stock with horn buttplate. Floral scroll engraving on the hand detachable lock plates, receiver, break lever, rolled edge trigger guard/lower tang, forearm hardware and on the breech end of the sunken rib. The lock plates are engraved in "HOLLAND & HOLLAND". The underside of the receiver is engraved "ROYAL/SELF-OPENER/PATENT/1922." Blued chopper lump barrels with the top of the right barrel engraved "HOLLAND & HOLLAND", and the top of the left barrel is engraved "98. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON." The bottom flats of the barrels are stamped with the "Crown/GP" and "Crown/V" proofs, marked "NITRO PROOF", "12" and "2 1/2" followed by "CHOKE." The underside of each barrel is marked with the matching serial number. The water table is stamped with two "Crown/V" proof marks and the matching serial number on each side. The serial number is also engraved on the lower tang. The barrels have a single brass bead sight, choked light modified/modified, 2 1/2 inch chambers and ejectors. There is a gold inlaid cocking indicator on each lock plate. The receiver and locks are casehardened, and the remaining metal surfaces are blue. Double triggers, automatic tang mounted safety with gold inlaid "SAFE", and mounted with a multi-point checkered walnut forearm (interior hardware numbered to gun), and straight diamond grip stock with teardrop flats, initial oval inscribed "P.V." and 3/4 inch thick serrated buttplate. Bore and stock measurements: both barrels proved at 12 (.729) and measuring .735/.733, chokes .012/.020, minimum wall thickness .024/.029, Length of pull is 14 1/2 inches including 1 inch horn extension, drop at comb is 1 1/4 inches, drop at heel is 2 3/4 inches, and weight is 6 lbs 12 oz. The Abercrombie & Fitch marked brass cornered oak and leather case has a blank brass plaque on the exterior of the lid and two reproduction Holland & Holland paper labels on the interior of the lid (note the notice label is numbered to the gun). The case contains a leather Holland & Holland handguard, two-piece wooden/brass cleaning rod, snap caps, oiler, pull through, case key and Selvyt cloth.

Very fine. The barrels retain 90% original blue finish showing some minor handling evidence and some forearm wear. 85% plus original case colors remain. The refinished wood is fine with some minor dings and scratches and some scattered blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine showing minor-moderate handling/storage wear. The labels are nearly complete and have clear printing.
