Description:

Donald Dallas, author of "Alexander Henry: Rifle Maker," confirmed it was completed on 26 June 1886 as a 2nd Quality .500 falling block rifle built for Manton & Co. It has a beaded blade front sight on a raised base, two leaf rear sight (one standing, one folding) with platinum sight lines, "ALEXR. HENRY, EDINBURGH & LONDON" signed on top of the barrel, English proofs and 38 bore marking on the left, the serial number along with "A.H" and a circled "S" on the bottom of the barrel, "PATENT/NO 2225" engraved on the receiver ring, "ALEXR HENRY" signed on the back action lock, border engraving on the components aside from the barrel, "5852" engraved on the lower tang, distinctive Alexander Henry forend with multi-point checkering and single wedge, and checkered pistol grip buttstock with engraved and checkered shotgun buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as period refinished with 95% plus high quality blued finish and case colors, minor scratches and marks, some patches of minor oxidation, and crisp markings and engraving. The wood is very good and has crisp checkering, light scratches and marks, smooth finish, and a chip and some dents on the heel. Mechanically excellent.
