The makers have kindly confirmed that this rifle was completed on June 25th 1956 for Hewitt with 24 inch Hykro steel barrels. The chopper lump barrels have a smooth concave rib marked ".465 NITRO EXPRESS" between the sights and "MAKER IN ENGLAND" on the underside, "HOLLAND & HOLLAND" on the right, "98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON" on the left, engraved band at the breech, beaded ramp front sight with flip over moon sight, three leaf rear sight graduated from 100-300 yards (two folding, one fixed) on a matte rib and ejectors. The London nitro proofed barrel flat is marked "465 3 1/4 14 TONS." The receiver and lock plates feature near full coverage engraved floral scrollwork. The scrollwork extends to the break lever, trigger guard, grip cap and forearm hardware. The bolstered action with third fastener has removable firing pin discs, hand detachable side locks, gold inlaid cocking indicators, double triggers with articulated front trigger and manual safety with gold inlaid "SAFE" on an extended upper tang. The barrels, forearm hardware and low tang are numbered to the gun. The nicely figured forearm and pistol grip stock feature fine checkering, cheekpiece, grip cap with compartment containing an extra front sight, tear drop flats, "D.V.B." engraved gold initial oval and solid rubber recoil pad. Length of pull is 14 inches, weight 9 lbs. 9 oz. The brass cornered oak and leather bound oak takedown case features a leather Holland & Holland label on the interior of the lid and a "DVB" initialed plaque on the exterior of the lid and comes with a "DVB" initialed canvas and leather cover, two-piece cleaning rod with four heads, case key, H&H oil bottle, pair of snap caps, three hand tools and bone container holding two extra firing pins and one extra side plate screw.

Very fine. The barrels retain 98% factory quality refinished blue showing a spot of surface rust near the forearm lug. The remaining metal surfaces have a few areas of light age discoloration. The reoiled wood is very fine showing minimal handling evidence and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine showing minor handling/storage wear.
