The factory letter confirms this rifle was invoiced on August 20, 1877, to Benjamin Kittredge & Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio, as a Model 1874 Business Rifle in .45 for $35. It also notes that many Kittredge guns were sent further west including being shipped to Walter Cooper of Bozeman, Montana. The rifle has a blade front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight, standard Bridgeport barrel markings, double set triggers, unmarked lock, standard Sharps Rifle Co. patent marking on the left side of the action, smooth stock and forearm, and rifle buttplate. Matching numbers are found on the forearm, bottom of the barrel, and upper tang.

Rating Definition:

Very good with mostly dark brown patina along the barrel, strong original blue in the area covered by the forearm, replaced rear sight, repaired lever spring, mottled gray and brown patina on the remaining parts, some pitting on the buttplate, legible markings, cracks in the stock wrist, mild overall wear on the wood including scrapes and dents, and attractive "Old West" condition throughout. Mechanically fine.
