Blued octagonal barrel with partially matted top flat and signed "HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98 NEW BOND ST. LONDON." and "WINNERS OF ALL THE "FIELD" RIFLE TRIALS. .22 R.F. LONG." Blued bead front sight and rear sight of one fixed and two folding leaves graduated from "50" to "150" yards and each with platinum inlaid center line. Casehardened scroll engraved action signed "HOLLAND & HOLLAND" on each side on a ribbon, blued scroll engraved top lever and floor plate, and automatic safety with gold inlaid "SAFE". Well-figured 14 1/2 inch pistol grip stock with raised cheekpiece and checkered grip and forearm, the last with dark horn cap. Engraved blued steel butt plate and pistol grip cap, the underside of the butt with vacant silver escutcheon. Weight: 6 lbs. 1 oz., London special definitive proof marks. In leather bound oak case lined in red baize, the lid with reproduction Holland & Holland trade label, the exterior of the lid embossed with treble border lines and named "C. PURDON COOTE".

Very fine as period refurbished during period of use. Barrel retains nearly all of its blued finish with a slight plum appearance and some areas of light pitting. The action retains nearly all of its vibrant casehardened finish. The trigger guard and grip cap have nearly all of their blue finish remaining with some spotting and the grip cap turning to plum. The stock is very fine with only the slightest blemishes and crisp checkering. The engraving is clear throughout. Mechanically excellent. The case has great character with numerous scratches and staining on the outside and is missing the straps. A reproduction Holland & Holland trade label is on the inside of the case. Additional Information: We corrected the original description to show that this rifle was originally chambered for the "22 Long" cartridge. However, in relooking at this rifle the throat area does shows moderate to heavy erosion, which will allow both a 22 Long and 22 LR cartridge to chamber.
