According to the included factory letter, this pistol was shipped as a single item to the William H. Hogee Company of Los Angeles, California (a wholesaler and dealer/manufacturer of sporting goods founded in 1901) on November 20th 1939. The letter includes the note "Special Features: Furnished with an adjustable rear sight", along with the typical "Not Listed" grips. Serrated blade front sight and an adjustable square notch rear sight, with the two-line address and patent dates on the left side of the slide, the model nomenclature and Rampant Colt on the right, and the matching number beneath the firing pin stop. The rear of the slide has been adjusted to accommodate the sight, with the top slightly flattened out, and the top of the stop plate also squared off and lowered. The frame is "GOVERNMENT MODEL" marked, with a milled short trigger, wide knurled hammer, long grip safety, arched checkered mainspring housing, checkered grips, two-tone magazine, and a "COLT 45 AUTO MATCH" and "MB" marked barrel. With a Colt National Match (adjustable sight) labeled "black box", unnumbered, with instruction sheets, barrel brush, and a small screwdriver.

Very fine, with 95% plus professionally restored blue finish. The top of the slide from the ejector port to the firing pin block shows variations in color, chiefly a copper tone; the cause of this coloration is connected to the restoration work needed to prepare for reinstallation of the rear sight. Some bright wear is present on the high edges, along with some light handling marks. The grips are good, with some light dings. The box is fair, with some torn edges, tape repairs, and missing label segments. Mechanically excellent.
