Description:

Manufactured by the Springfield Armory in about 1904, this rifle was run through the post-1905 battery of adjustments and upgrades, which included the replacement of the early rod bayonet with a lug for a knife bayonet and rechambering for the 30-06 Springfield cartridge. An improvement over the previous 30-03 cartridge, the 30-06 used a ballistically superior "spitzer" profile bullet and became the American standard through World War II as well as a mainstay of sport shooters and parent case for a number of popular wildcat cartridges. Hooded blade front sight and folding ladder rear sight graduated to 2700 yards, with a "SA/bomb/05" marked barrel and a straight-handled bolt marked "S" on the underside of the rear lug. Smooth "S" pattern stock, with "S" on the tip, an ungrooved high hump forearm, "H.W.H." cartouche on the left side, script "P" on the underside of the wrist, brown leather sling and a smooth steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 60% plus arsenal finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, a dark casehardening on the receiver, and mild spotting and handling marks overall. The stock is fine, with a number of scattered scuffs and dents. Mechanically excellent.
