Description:

According to the included factory letter, this pistol was one of 504 pistols shipped to the Washington Quartermaster Depot in Cameron, Virginia, for delivery to an unnamed G2 (Intelligence) officer posted at the Pentagon on February 20, 1945. The exact use of this pistol is unknown; the 1903 and 1908 Colts were popular among espionage operators and other "plain clothes" staff, and this particular pistol falls directly between two known general officer issued pistols. Fixed sights, with the two-line address and patent block on the left side of the slide ahead of the Rampant Colt, the caliber marking on the right, and "U.S. PROPERTY" on the frame. Parkerized overall with a polished barrel, full blue magazine, and checkered medallion grips. A reproduction kraft-style pistol box (numbered to another pistol) is included, along with a cleaning rod and a brown leather shoulder holster (of the style popular with some general officers and often associated with the OSS) with its own reproduction box.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, with 98% plus of the possibly refurbished parkerized finish; while this finish appears to be factory or arsenal quality, the letter indicates that the pistol should be blued. Some bright edge wear and handling marks are visible overall. The grips are excellent, with some stains and dings. Mechanically excellent. The reproduction accessories are all near new.
