Description:

This revolver was manufactured in 1875 and includes a 1969 factory letter indicating the related records have been lost or destroyed and letters between Alan Jay Gaines to Robert Cox about a prior sale of the revolver in which Gaines notes the engraving might be by Nimschke (more closely resembles Helfricht or Young). It has fine scroll engraving with dot backgrounds, a ratchet wheel pattern on the left side plate, and full silver-gilt finish (gold over silver plating). The barrel has a small rounded blade front sight and is marked "COLT PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A." Matching serial numbers are marked on the bottom of the barrel, back of the cylinder, left side of the butt preceded by "E" and on the back of the right grip panel.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine with 85% plus original gold over silver plating showing a mix of aged golden and tarnished silver surfaces, minor flaking primarily on the cylinder, and light handling marks and scratches. Strong original niter blue remains on the small parts. The grips each have a tension crack but are also very fine with attractive natural tones and minor handling wear. Mechanically excellent. This is a truly exceptional New Line .32 the likes of which are incredibly uncommon, even among those in advanced collections, especially in high condition.
