This example of an earlier production Model 1896 sniper rifle was manufactured by the Carl Gustav factory and subsequently arsenal fitted with a short rail type M/44 scope. The top of the receiver is marked with a large "Crown C /CARL GUSTAFS STADS/GEVARSFAKTORI/1908". The number "553" and a crown proof are visible on the various parts. The rifle is equipped with a inverted "v" front sight and adjustable tangent rear sight graduated from 3 to 6. It has the full length military stock and short handguard with the pot metal tag marked "I 8/No 129". The replacement scope base is held on with only three screws in lieu of the standard three screws, two taper pins and lock screws, and it is numbered "1749" on the front end with the scope mount numbered "2103". The scope rings are numbered "542" and "286" respectively, and, as noted, it is fitted with a late model all blued M/44 sniper scope. The side of the scope tube is marked "3X65 m/44" over "NR 194." It is complete with slotted cleaning rod.

Very fine as arsenal with 95% of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear. The complete bolt assembly is still in the white. The scope base, mount and scope also retain 95% of their blued finish, and the scope optics are clear but a little hazy. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition with a nice matching color overall showing only minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
