Description:

This is a WWII K98 sniper rifle manufactured by the Gustloff factory in 1944. The top of the receiver ring is stamped "bcd/4," the wartime code for the Gustloff-Werkes and year of manufacture. It has a standard K98 bolt with a single number "1" on the underside and serial number "2220/x" stamped on top of the bolt handle. The bolt is fitted with a matching milled safety and cocking assembly. The barrel is fitted with the inverted "v" front sight and a standard K98 tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. The rear portion of the barrel is stamped with rifle serial number "2220x" and a single "Eagle" firing proof, with a partial visible barrel maker's code next to the edge of the stock. It has a set of blued, stamped and unnumbered barrel bands; a stamped unnumbered trigger guard that carries a single "byf" proof towards the front with a milled floor plate that has a single number "1" proof, that is numbered "2220" in the middle. It is fitted with the wartime laminated stock and handguard, with the right side of the stock having a partial "Eagle/H" proof below the stock washer, with the underside stamped "dot" which is the maker's mark for the Brno factory. The stock is fitted with a checkered steel buttplate. The receiver is fitted with an all blued scope base and screw set with a small partial eagle proof. It has a blued long side rail type scope mount with the machined steel scope bands. The mount is numbered "7868u" (non-matching) on the side front with a small partial "eagle/359" Waffenamt proof in the middle. The mount is fitted with a blued sniper scope that has the center elevation adjustment ring in the middle of the scope tube with the rear of the tube marked "dow +" with serial number "19200" on the rear underside of the tube. The rifle comes with front sight cover; however it is missing the cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with blue loss on the floor plate, trigger guard bow and bolt handle. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition with a nice laminate color overall with clear but faint stock proofs. The scope and mount both retain 95% of their blued finish overall, and the optics are viewable but slightly occluded/hazy. An exceptional example of a WWII German long side rail sniper rifle with scarce dow scope.
