Description:

Constructed from olive cotton, the tunic bears a faded maker's mark on the inside next to the buttons, and is furnished for a oberfeldwebel (master sergeant) in the Jaegers or Panzergrenadiers; the left sleeve shows traces of a now-absent triangle, and traces of two bands of ribbon around the cuffs that would single him out as "Der Spiess" ("the Spear", a senior unit NCO comparable to the American first sergeant or the British company sergeant major). Notes from the consignor attribute the shirt as French made (the Germans captured large quantities of them in their occupation of France). Included with the tunic as well as the green shirt with a matching tie, a brown pair of pants marked "R.B.Nr./0/1201/0001" and "177/72", "infinity symbol/lazy '8'", 180/92" and "RB 43" inside the waistline, and a tan canvas belt with "GOTT MIT UNS" buckle. Provenance ex-Pete Hill Collection.

Rating Definition:

Good, with overall wear and staining, as a jacket well-worn in the field.
