Description:

Originally manufactured by Walther, this P-38 has been professionally rebuilt by noted California gunsmith John Martz (copy of original bill of sale included), who significantly reduced the overall dimensions of the pistol without sacrificing the pistols distinct profile. Measuring 7 3/8 inches in total length and 4 7/8 inches tall, this pistol is fitted with fixed sights, with "JVM" and "70" in ovals on the right side of the frame. The barrel is unnumbered with a "135" proof, the other major components matching numbered with "359" proofs. With two properly shortened magazines, one unnumbered, the other marked "2/JVM". Consignor states that this is number 70 of 70 produced by John Martz, and was the last one he made before his passing.

Rating Definition:

Fine as professionally rebuilt by John Martz with 95% of the high polished blue finish, showing some fading of the original markings, minor handling marks and a few polishing marks below the finish. The seams from the shortening of the grips are visible, as is some glue and some rough spots. The slide stop fails to engage on the "JVM" magazine, but with the unmarked magazine the pistol is mechanically excellent.
