According to the included factory letter, this pistol was retained by the factory archives at the request of Gary W. French, then Vice President of Finance for the Colt Firearms Division, later Division President. The exact circumstances are unknown, but the pistol was never picked up, and remained in the archives for almost 30 years. The features, markings and gold accents are standard for the Browning Commemorative, with Colt wood grain box numbered to gun, blue velvet lined locking hardwood display case, and a cardboard shipping box labeled "For/ French".
