Description:

This is a stunning master engraved George S. Patton Jr. Freedom Colt engraved by Dwain R. Wright and limited to only 20 revolvers. (This example is number 4). The revolver itself is finished in a beautiful high luster charcoal blue finish. Most of the barrel, the outer edge of the ejector housing, frame, cylinder and hammer sides are engraved with a floral scroll design with a punch dot background. The muzzle end of the barrel has a single gold band and a decorative simple line design, and the breech end has gold scroll accents and double gold bands, which extend to the ejector housing. The rear edge of the cylinder has double gold bands, and the frame and hammer sides have gold wire bordering. The left side recoil shield has a gold relief bust of General Patton, and the right side of the frame has a gold inlaid tank. The right side of the frame ahead of the cylinder is signed "WRIGHT." The trigger guard has a "Sam Colt" signature. The back strap has "Freedom Colt Set B No 4/20," and the butt is signed "George Patton." All of the former are in gold. The standard barrel markings, patent markings, Rampant Colt and serial number are also in gold. The top of the back strap has a gold relief Liberty Bell. The front sight is gold plated, and the revolver is fitted with a one piece grip with deep relief carved eagle and carved floral scroll designs on the right side. This gun took about 4 months to complete, and Wright also made the case and accessories. The "Freedom Colt" project took Wright from July 1976 to July of 1980. The revolver is complete in a nice mahogany case with a brass and wood George S. Patton Jr. plaque affixed to the inside of the lid and red velvet fitted lining. In the case are two screwdrivers, a brush, two brass and steel oilers with the same charcoal blue on the lid and body, wooden cleaning rod and six 45 caliber cartridges in a brass and wooden holder. There is also a covered compartment with a nicely figured walnut lid.

Rating Definition:

Near new as master embellished by Dwain R. Wright, with all of the high luster charcoal blue finish remaining. Some of the gold on the Rampant Colt is thinning, otherwise all of the gold remains. The grip is excellent with a very attractive grain and light handling/storage marks. There is a minor crack in the lid and a small tear in the lining, and the plaque is partially loose; otherwise, the case is excellent. All of the accessories are excellent with the exception of a minor age crack in the handle of the brush. This is an appropriate tribute to the most famous general of World War II!
