Description:

Manufactured in 1887, the first year of production, with Damascus barrel and deluxe wood. The accompanying factory letter lists this shotgun with 30 inch barrel in 12 gauge, and fancy checkered stock with hard rubber buttplate. The letter further states the shotgun was received into the warehouse and shipped on December 22, 1887 on order number 3315. This shotgun is pictured and described on pages 12 and 13 of "Winchester Shotguns and Shotshells" by Ronald Stradt. Single bead sight on the unmarked barrel with a 2 3/4 inch chamber and modified choke. The right side of the receiver is engraved with a "CHL" monogram with flourishes of light scroll and a scalloped border. (Does not mention this in the factory letter, although writer believes it to be factory). The left side is engraved with the standard "WRACO" monogram and matching engraved border. With standard address and patent markings on the lower tang. Deluxe checkered, highly figured two piece slab forearm and pistol grip stock with Winchester Repeating Arms hard rubber buttplate. Length of pull is 12 3/4 inches.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The barrel has an overall gray patina with visible Damascus pattern, some small dings, light brown spotting, and traces of pin point pitting. The magazine tube has 20% original blue finish with a mottled brown/gray patina on the balance. The receiver has an attractive smooth gray patina overall, with light traces of original case colors in the protected areas, some small scratches, and crisp engraving. The wood is also fine with well defined checkering, attractive figure, small dings throughout, and most of the original rubbed oil finish. Mechanically excellent.
