The distinctive Bullard rifles are desirable on the collector market today due to their limited production (estimated 10,000-12,000) from 1886 to 1890. Among those limited rifles are a large array of variations including both large and small frames, military muskets, multiple stock configurations and grades, calibers, sights, etc. making it a rich ground for hunting down particularly rare examples like this three digit serial numbered engraved large frame sporting rifle. The sides of the receiver have a floral scroll engraving featuring a game animal in the center (bear on the left, raccoon on the right) and a wild beast head at the rear. It has dovetail blade and elevation adjustable sights, "BULLARD REPEATING ARMS COMPANY/SPRINGFIELD MASS U.S.A. PAT. AUG. 16. 1881." on the left side of the receiver, smooth pistol grip stock and checkered Bullard buttplate. The rifle lacks a visible caliber marking. A dot follows the serial number behind the hammer.

Fair, having a smooth brown-gray patina and pitting overall. The refinished wood is fair with a hairline stress crack near the cartridge elevator, missing chip near the toe (extends to buttplate) and on the forearm (left side), added material around the upper tang and numerous minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine (no half cock).
