Description:

This is a seldom encountered Winchester 1885 High Wall shotgun. Only a few hundred of these are estimated to have been manufactured towards the end of production around 1913-1923. Brass bead front sight, two-line address and patent marking followed by the two-line nickel steel marking and then "20 GA. FULL" over a group of British nitro proofs on the left side at the breech. The underside has some additional small proofs and "M.N.S" under the forearm. The breechblock and left side of the takedown collar and frame have additional British proofs. The upper tang has the three-line patent and trade mark marking. The stock and forearm are standard grade walnut and have an ebony tip insert and a checkered hard rubber buttplate. The chamber gauges between 2 3/4 and 3 inches, and the length of pull is 13 1/2 inches.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 50% plus of the lightly thinning original blue finish on the barrel, traces of original blue on the action, mild edge wear, minor marks and scratches, and some light spotting. The wood is also fine and has most of the original varnish on the buttstock, moderate scratches and dings, and handling wear concentrated on the forearm. Mechanically excellent.
