This rifle has a smoothbore barrel equipped with traditional rifle sights and marked "H.E. LEMAN LANCASTER PA. WARRANTED" on top. The lock has some scrollwork and "LEMAN/LANCTR. PA." The stock has Leman's well-known inked flame pattern "figure" on the butt and a simple early style patch box. Henry E. Leman (1812-1887) is one of the American gunmakers most often linked with the fur trade in the 19th century and also supplied arms to both the U.S. government and American pioneers heading west.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with brown and gray patina on the steel, moderate pitting centered around the nipple, aged patina on the brass, some minor scratches and dings throughout, a few generally minor chips and cracks, and attractive false figure. Mechanically fine. Overall, this is an attractive smoothbore Leman with fancier patch box than is often seen.
