Description:

The smoothbore barrels each have rifle style blade and notch sights and a ramrod, and one is signed "CH." Conrad Horn (1803-1879) of Hazelton, Pennsylvania, is mostly known for his "Kentucky Rifles," but we sold one other "wender"/swivel breech double rifle by him last year in this same basic style but with different furniture. The lock has scroll patterns and is marked "PENNSYLVANIA/RIFLE WORKS." The iron trigger guard acts as the barrel release. It has a plains rifle style cap box. The side plate has scroll and a folk art style bird engraving. The curly maple stock has a border engraved silver thumb plate, floral engraved silver cheek piece inlay, border engraved brass cheek piece edge plate, border engraved brass toe plate, and plain brass buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very overall with crisp light gray and brown patina, and slight spotting on the iron, aged patina on the brass, beautiful figure on the stock, minor contact wear from the hammer above the lock, and general minor scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
