Description:

The script signature is a bit difficult to read but definitely appears to be "C. Siple." The Kentucky Rifle Foundation lists: "Christian Siple was apprenticed to Jacob Haeffer in Lancaster Boro as early as 1797. He moved to Middletown, PA where he was taxed as a gunsmith from 1808 to 1825. He worked in town as well as in contiguous Swatara Township, Dauphin County. He died circa 1827." It has blade and notch sights, scrollwork on the lock, single trigger, silver thumb plate, floral and scroll engraved brass furniture including the horse head patch box which has a toe release button, silver crescent moon cheek rest inlay, vent pick below the cheek rest, and incised carving behind the cheek rest.

Rating Definition:

Good as reconverted to flintlock configuration and rebuilt including an old restock. The barrel and lock display gray and brown patina and moderate oxidation/pitting concentrated at the breech. The brass and silver have varying aged patina. The stock has several splits and cracks but remains stable. There are general scratches and dings throughout. Mechanically fine.
