Description:

The Northwest Trade Gun remained relatively unchanged in both the 18th and 19th centuries other than updating the locks to the percussion system and minor production improvements. They were used across the entire continent of North America and present in just about every conflict involving Native Americans once they were in wide use, including the American Revolution and Custer's Last Stand. This one has a blade front sight, three stage barrel, Enfield style bolster and lock, Edward Bond's "sitting fox/EB" mark (used well-after he was no longer involved) at the center of the lock, "BARNETT/LONDON/1876" on the tail of the lock, the signature serpent side plate, carved tear drop flats on the sides and the breech, fluted comb, and unknown stamp on the right side of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Good with dark brown patina, pitting concentrated at the breech, mild scratches and dings, some wood absent above the nose of the lock, and absent ramrod. Replaced hammer screw. Mechanically fine. No collection of firearms from American history is complete without the gun used longer than any other in North America.
