Description:

Henry Albright (1772-1845) was part of the Lancaster School of American long rifles active in the "Golden Age" in Lancaster County and Lehigh County, Pennsylvania starting c.1792. The rifle has blade and notch sights, "H Albright" in script on top, and a tapered profile. The lock is unmarked. The Lancaster "daisy" patch box has fine scroll and floral engraving, a domed lid, and a release button on the buttplate. The other furniture is unadorned brass. The stock has thin molding lines along the forend and butt and incised rococo style scroll patterns on the left side of the butt but lacks the scrolls usually scene on Albright's rifles on the right side of the wrist. The butt is more of a Roman nose profile of the type common in Lehigh rather than the straight profile common in Lancaster.

Rating Definition:

Good as reconverted with dark artificial brown on the barrel and lock, mild oxidation/pitting, aged patina on the brass, crisp engraving and carving, repaired side plate, some spots of filler and glued cracks in the stock, attractive flame figure, a few unaltered cracks, and general scrapes and dings. Mechanically fine.
