Description:

Offered here is an unusual Colt two cavity iron bullet mold originally manufactured to produce .31 percussion caliber rounds and subsequently factory converted for .38 caliber. This mold correctly makes rounds for .38 caliber Colt conversion revolvers or early Lightning double action revolvers. This type of factory converted bullet mold is unlisted in Rapley's "Colt Percussion Accoutrements, 1834-1873." The side of the mold has the original percussion caliber marking redacted and replaced with "38 CAL." A hook extension used to prime reloads is riveted to the inside of one of the legs. The sprue cutter is marked "COLT'S/PATENT."

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 90% plus original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. An unusual bullet mold that will make a great addition to your antique Colt collection.
