Description:

This desirable first model Merwin, Hulbert & Co. large frame single action revolver is documented in Art Phelps' "The Story of Merwin Hulbert & Co. Firearms" on page 13. The revolver has the early production features such as an open top frame, humpback hammer spur, scoop type cylinder flutes, wedge in the barrel and rare mottled red hard rubber grips. The barrel has the one-line Merwin, Hulbert & Co. address/patent dates marking on top and the Hopkins & Allen address on the left side. The serial number is on the butt, and matching assembly numbers are on the rear cylinder face, barrel lug, left side of the grip frame and both grip panels.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 90% plus mostly frosted original nickel finish with flaking on the balance (mostly on the loading gate and trigger guard). Much of the original case colors remain on the hammer. With the exception of a missing small surface chip near the bottom (right panel), the grips are very fine with crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
